Expressive Game Design Project

Controls:

Arrow keys for movement, W to shoot, A and D to rotate the ship.

An arcade style game designed to evoke a creepy/unsettling atmosphere, primarily through the use of music and visual effects, as well as a feeling of overall futility and impending doom, through there being no win condition, only death. The game was made solely by me, with the help of numerous tutorials on learn.unity, and the partial use of the unity playground asset. I drew inspiration from games such as Asteroids and Space Invaders, with how they might look and feel if they had had access to more modern visuals, music, and sound effects, as well as the overall feel of FTL Faster Than Light. If I had more time to work on this game, I would implement an opening cutscene showing how the player got into this situation, due to being hit by a rogue asteroid, causing an unstable warp jump into the asteroid field, as well as options for changing the difficulty and a dedicated restart button.
